KARACHI (Dunya News) – Heavy rainfall in Karachi Saturday morning ‎disrupted routine affairs and claimed six lives after every nook and ‎corner was consumed by water, causing incidents including wall crumbling, roads muddling and electrocution killed six people including a child.‎ The meteorological department recorded 39 millimeter rain in Saddar, 12mm in Faisal Base, ‎‎and 6mm at University Road.‎
Intense winds uprooted trees and signboards, damaged electricity wiring, ‎tripped electricity feeders whereas grid stations were affected badly. ‎However, K-Electric (KE) has claimed that all tripped feeders have been ‎restored, in fact, areas affected by cable faults have started receiving ‎electricity from alternative sources. ‎
According to KE, emergency has been imposed in the industrial zone and ‎the rapid response team is already mending damaged wires.‎
One person was killed after a wall crumbled while another was injured in ‎the incident. In Neeol Colony, a child was killed while two others were ‎injured. Another man died after being electrocuted near the Ram das building.‎
According to the Met department, there will be more rainfall during the ‎next 24 hours.‎
Even after 24 hours, roads are still consumed by water because the ‎management has failed to make restoration efforts. KMC Karachi, ‎Cantonment Board, district administration were working after hours for ‎fixing water drainage. As late as 3pm, water could not be ‎extracted from roads.‎
