Summary
Karachi may plunge into darkness due to non-availability of furnace oil and Sui gas to Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation (KESC). Ever since the end of gas-load management, KESC is yet to receive supply of gas from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). Increase in loadshedding is expected due to the non-availability of fuel. According to the KESC, Bin Qasim Power Plant has been closed down due to lack of gas due to which KSEC is facing a short fall of 600MW. The loadshedding duration has reached to 7 hours. Industrial areas are facing up to 5 hours of loadshedding.According to experts, if SSGC failed to supply gas, then KESC will have to buy furnace oil from Pakistan State Oil. While in this regard, the utility has requested the PSO to provide 500 ton oil on 45 days loan. PSO sources said that it might not provide oil on loan due to financial problems. According to sources, the KESC is bound to provide money a week before the oil supply.
