NEPRA approves 82 paisas per unit decrease in electricity tariff

Summary Consumers will find a sigh of relief in next month bills as a cut has been approved in power rates.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced about 82 paisas per unit reduction in power tariffs.

A public hearing over a petition of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) was held. The CPPA in its request had pleaded decrease in the per unit price of power for all power distributing companies (DISCOs).

The CPPA told the regulatory authority (NEPRA) that power production had decreased in May and prices of furnace oil also went down, therefore, cost of power production had decreased.

The CPPA recommended at least 82 paisas per unit decrease in electricity tariff.

According to NEPRA, about 7.66 billion units of electricity were produced in May, out of which 34.5 percent was generated from hydropower projects, 36.58 percent from furnace oil, while 22.45 percent was generator from Gas.

Earlier in March the power regulator had increased the per unit price by Rs.2.24 which was applicable on all providers excluding KElectric (previously KESC).
