Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry deplored that the government would keep on pursuing the pick and choose policy in promotions of the civil servants, if the courts did not interfere. A three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Ijaz Chaudhry heard the case regarding the promotion of deputy post master general.During the hearing, the CJ remarked that anyone could defend himself if he has been exploited by his department, adding that a department deprived one of its official of grade-20 promotion on a pretext that his behavior with his subordinates was not good.The CJ warned the government that it would be termed as governments dishonest, if the rules and regulation were not respected vis--vis promotions.The apex court has also ordered promotion of the concerned deputy post master general to grade-20 with an immediate effect.
