Summary
Due to lack of rainfall in the country most dams are getting dried up. The water stored in Tarbela Dam reached to dead level and thus the discharge of water from Tarbela has been reduced by 3000 cusec feet. Since the blockage of water from India, river Chenab is also drying up.Water level is only 36 feet high from dead level in Tarbela Dam. This year due to the lack of rainfall and slow melt down of ice from the mountains as a result lesser quantity of water has arrived in the dam. The water entering the Tarbela Dam has reduced to 1,400 cusec feet while the discharge from the Dam is 25,000 cusec feet.Additional 3,000 cusec feet of water is being discharged from Mangla Dam. Mangla Dam stands 1,072 feet of water level. 3,636 cusec feet of water is coming into Mangla while 18,317 cusec feet of water is being discharged from the dam and due to shortfall, the water reaching to river Chenab would be even lesser. Chenab is only receiving 4,748 cusec feet of water. According to Irsa, due to the shortage of incoming water at Marala, water discharge has been temporarily halted.
