ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The first session between government and Taliban committee will be held tomorrow (Thursday).
According to sources, the government peace committee will also meet DG ISI Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam on Thursday. The meeting will discuss the progress in peace talks with Taliban.
The government committee will also meet Army Chief General Raheel Sharif after he returns from Saudi Arabia.
The talks with Taliban were scheduled to be kicked off from February 4. However, they were delayed after the government sought explanation over Taliban’s committee.
Earlier, the government dialogue committee had conveyed to the team nominated by outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan that ambiguity about formation of their committee was removed.
Member of the government negotiating team Rahimullah Yusufzai contacted coordinator of the other committee Maulana Yousaf Shah to convey that they are ready to meet Maulana Samiul Haq at his convenience.
He said clarifications sought from Taliban’s Committee have been received and the Government team is ready for talks.
Meanwhile‚ the Government Committee said it would contact Maulana Samiul Haq of Taliban Committee to fix date‚ time and venue for meeting.
Member of Taliban Committee Maulana Samiul Haq has said that they are ready for dialogue with the government committee at any time.
Talking to newsmen in Islamabad on Tuesday‚ he said Taliban have clarified that their three-member committee is final and it wants to sit down with government team to evolve a strategy aimed at bringing peace.
