ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the United States disbursed over 3.8 billion dollars during the last four years under Kerry Lugar Bill (KLB) as against an obligation of over 3.9 billion dollars.
This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan during question hour in the House.
The disbursements included over 252 million dollars for energy sector programmes‚ over 185 million for economic growth and agriculture‚ over 323 million for education‚ 272 million for health‚ 195 million for democratic governance‚ 1157 million for emergency and flood relief‚ 549 million cash transferred‚ 754 million under stabilization programme and 137 million dollars humanitarian assistance.
The secretary said JICA provided grant assistance of over 18.5 million dollars and loan assistance of over 193 million dollars from 2012-13 onwards for different projects.
To another question‚ he said Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund has 25 billion rupees available for micro-credit and grants.
Replying to a question‚ the Parliamentary Secretary said a separate interest free programme titled “Prime Minister’s Qarz-e-Hasana Scheme” will be launched in near future.
Afzal Khan said the government aims to bring one hundred thousand new tax payers in the net during the current financial year and an additional one hundred thousand in each of the following two years.
He said notices requiring filing of returns have been issued to over 61 thousand potential tax payers during the current financial year.
To another question‚ he said the cumulative impact of devaluation of rupee on foreign debt since 2008 is over 1909 billion rupees.
