KARACHI (Dunya News) - The provincial government has banned pillion riding in Sindh including Karachi for one month. The ban will be in effect from Sunday midnight.
According to Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon, the ban was imposed after reviewing the law and order situation in the province while the government exempted newsmen, children, women and aged people from ban on pillion riding.
Meanwhile, the residents lamented that they were already facing problems in commutation due to CNG stations closure and public transport, saying that the ban has further added to their traffic woes.
On the other hand, police rounded up around 68 suspects including alleged terrorists during search operation in different areas of Karachi on Sunday. Huge caches of arms were also seized from the arrested.
Following the killing of six police personnel in Landhi area of troubled metropolis, police conducted search operation after sealing entry/exit points and nabbed 26 suspects. Weapons were also confiscated from two arrested persons.
Later, police conducted raids on a tip-off regarding the presence of criminal elements in Qayoumabad area of Karachi.
Around 42 suspected persons were arrested. According to police, three of the suspects belonged to a banned outfit.
Meanwhile, investigation with the arrested is underway.
At least six police officials were martyred and two others were injured when two police vehicles came under attack in Landhi 6 and Landhi 3 on Saturday night.
As per details, three policemen were killed in a hand grenade attack on one police mobile, outside house of MQM-H chief Afaq Ahmad in Landhi No-6.
According to police, some unknown motorbike riding attackers hurled a hand grenade at the police mobile, stationed for guard duty outside house of Afaq Ahmad, and fled away from the scene, leaving three police officials dead.
Later on, the motorbike riding miscreants opened indiscriminate fire at a second police mobile in Landhi No-3 and escaped uninterrupted, leaving three policemen martyred at the scene.
