Summary Musharraf's defense team and MQM to form a joint committee.
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Ahmad Raza Kasuri, counsel for former president Pervez Musharraf, has said that court’s ruling about Musharraf’s medical report will be acceptable to the defense team. “If former president is a traitor then who is faithful?” he asked. Musharraf’s legal team and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have resolved to form a joint committee with regards to the treason trial of former president.
Ahmad Raza Kasuri was visiting Khursheed Begum Secretariat adjacent to the MQM center Nine Zero and met several MQM leaders including Deputy Convener of MQM Rabta Committee Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
After the meeting, Kasuri said while briefing the media that he arrived at Nine Zero to thank Altaf Hussain and MQM for their support regarding Musharraf’s trial. He further said that the political parties accusing Musharraf of various crimes are insulting the institution of Pakistan Army. “Terming an army chief a traitor constitutes treason itself,” he claimed. “Musharraf is in judicial custody at this time, government and judiciary will be responsible if anything happens to him.”
He then said the court decision about Musharraf’s medical report will be acceptable.
Talking about the strategy with regards to the treason trial, Kasuri said that MQM has consented to forming a joint committee consisting of 3 members from each side; the committee will prepare the strategy after overseeing various matters. “A lawyer has tongue, a journalist has pen and army has power of weapons,” he said. “What message are the negative propagandists giving to the Indian and Pakistani Armies?”
Former president Pervez Musharraf is facing a treason trial for suspending the constitution on November 3, 2007. He has failed to appear before the court owing to the security and health situations.
