Summary A matriculation student was gunned down by Rangers personnel in 2011.

Karachi: (Dunya News) – Sindh High Court has issued a detailed written verdict of Sarfraz Shah murder case saying Rangers personnel opened fire on an unarmed boy -- who begged for his life -- and left him to die. This action inflicted a sense of fear and insecurity in the society, the verdict says.
A high school student was gunned down on June 8, 2011 at Benazir Bhutto Park Karachi by Rangers personnel. Following a huge outcry created by the footage of the incident, seven suspects including six personnel were arrested. Anti-terrorism court had sentenced the shooter Shahid Zafar to death while other six suspects were handed life imprisonment. The Sindh High Court upheld the Anti-terrorism court’s decision and rejected the appeals.
Sindh High Court in its detailed verdict has said that the unarmed man was begging for his life and had no intention to escape, yet the Rangers opened fire. The verdict also noted that none of the officials rescued the boy and delayed taking him to the hospital which proved to be fatal. This is a violation of the mandate afforded to the law enforcing institutions; Rangers cannot open fire on a suspect unless it’s for defense, the contents of the verdict read.
The verdict also notes that such actions from members of law enforcing institutions inflict a sense of fear and insecurity in the society and that the responsibility of law enforcement is to provide the security to the citizens, not murder them.
