Cash allowance reduced to 5000 USD for int'l travelers
A maximum of 5000 dollars in cash can be carried by international travelers.
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar presided an important meeting on Thursday where governor State Bank told that the cash limit allowance of ten thousand dollars for foreign travel is being abused and acting upon the situation, government has lowered the maximum allowance limit to five thousand dollars. This move is expected to curb the abuse of previous allowance limit.
It was decided that children of up to age 12 will be allowed a maximum of two thousand five hundred dollars whereas the allowance cap for the newly born children will be one thousand two hundred and fifty dollars.
Federal minister said that the five thousand dollars limit is applicable to the passengers who want to carry foreign currency while traveling abroad. It was also decided that with effect from March 17, 2014; the exports to Afghanistan will not be permitted in Pakistani rupees. Both countries will be able to use regular banking channels for payments.
Pakistan has held ten thousand dollars cap for international travelers for many years. It merits mentioning here that the maximum cash allowance limit for international travel is ten thousand dollars in several other countries as well.
