Summary PM's Adviser said those responsible for drone attacks are not aware of tribal tradition of vengeance

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Talking to a book launching ceremony at Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that bombing through drones without prior warning is contrary to principles of justice. Those responsible for drone attacks are not familiar with tribal traditions and their principles of vengeance, he said.
Aziz said that 9/11’s subsequent war on terror and drone attacks have further complicated the issues of Pakistan’s tribal areas. Those responsible behind the drone attacks are not aware of the revengeful nature of the tribal traditions, he said.
Aziz further said that United States has already achieved most high value targets through its drone program and that it should now be put to stop.
The Advisor further said that he’s going to US this month where he intends to raise the drone attacks matter to the American leadership.
Negotiations with Taliban are in preliminary stage and contact is being restored, he added. Armed operations have caused harm and tribal people are opposed to the idea of armed solution mainly because of US policies, he said.
He further said that government has been trying to stop the drone attacks for the past six months.
Responding to a question about involvement in Afghanistan, he said that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia do not believe in involvement in the affairs of Afghanistan and want to promote an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process of reconciliation.

Akbar S Ahmad, the author of book “The Thistle and the Drone: How America's War on Terror Became a Global War on Tribal Islam” said that Pakistan has nothing to do with 9/11 incident and yet over sixty thousand Pakistanis have been killed in the so called war on terror.
Pakistan has protested against the drone attacks on Pakistani soil especially in the recent years. Following All Parties Conference (APC) resolution, the government had concluded the negotiations with Taliban to be the best option for peace.

Government had claimed developments in this regard however the negotiations process came to a halt when Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a drone attack two months ago.
