Summary Sunni Ittehad Council terms statement of Munawar Hassan an act of treason.
LAHORE (Online) - Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Monday, announced to stage nationwide protest against Jamat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hassan on coming Friday.
In a statement, the council said that Munawar Hassan committed an act of treason, calling Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Hakimullah Mehsud a martyr.
Earlier, lawmakers in Sindh Assembly also strongly criticized controversial remarks of Munawar Hassan on the status of army soldiers martyred in war against terrorism.
Meanwhile, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen said that dead terrorists could not be declared as martyrs, adding Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan should tender apology for controversial statements.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, MWM chief Allama Nasir Abbas Jafri said it is wrong to express sympathies for terrorists.
“Hands of terrorists are colored with bloods of innocent people,” he said.
“Terror-hit families are upset for declaring terrorists as martyrs. Controversial statements should be avoided on the issue of martyrdom,” Abbas said.
