The duration of loadshedding has been increased as the hydel power generation reduced owing to closing of the canals.According to Pepco authorities, the total power shortfall is above 4,000megawatts, which has made it difficult for the power distribution companies to enact the 6-8 hours outages programme.Apart from the scheduled six hours outages, unannounced loadshedding is also being carried out by the National Power Control in the urban areas, whereas outages from 8:00am to 3:00pm are also being carried out on the pretext of system repair on daily basis.The rural areas are being hit by ten hour blackouts. According to Pepco authorities, the water discharge from the water reservoirs would be increased after the completion of canal desilting till February 21, and added that it would decrease the duration of loadshedding.
