China being an important country is playing a pivotal role to ensure peace and stability in the region, said Chief of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif in Beijing on Wednesday. We support one china policy. We reaffirm our support to Chinese position on Taiwan and Tibet. We are against any effort which seeks to undermine peace and social stability in the Xinjiang province of China said Nawaz Sharif in interviews to Chinese print and electronic media. He pointed out that we condemn terrorism in all its forms, and also emphasized the need for a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to confronting this challenge. Nawaz Sharif expressed support for peaceful resolution of all differences with India, but urged India to respond to Pakistans gestures and initiatives in a positive manner. The PML-N Chief reiterated that only by strengthening the institutions can democracy be strengthened. Ensuring the rule of law in the country could address all the challenges including terrorism. In this context he remarked that the day the superior judges were restored was the happiest day of his life. He expressed confidence that in view of the national consensus against extremism and militancy, the nation will be able to overcome these challenges and resume its journey towards progress and development. He recalled that he and the former Prime Minister Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto had signed a document of far reaching importance, known as the Charter of Democracy (CoD) four years back which has presented a road map to the country to resolve differences among the political parties and to set the country on the path of democratic stability. Nawaz Sharif said that despite all reservations we must respect each others mandate, adding that he would never be a party to any effort to destabilize the present government. It was absolutely imperative, according to Nawaz Sharif, that the provisions of CoD be implemented in letter and spirit and all unconstitutional and illegal amendments introduced by the military dictator should be done away with. Regarding Sino-Pakistan relations, Nawaz Sharif recalled that China was a genuine friend and a strong ally of Pakistan. This was a relationship that had withstood the test of times and this was the reason why friendship between the two countries is referred to as an all weather friendship. He expressed his deep appreciation to the people and leadership of China for their strong support and generous assistance to Pakistan over the years. He added that he was confident that this relationship would continue to grow and prosper in the coming years and he too would endeavour to contribute to this effort whenever the opportunity arose. He said that China was making a substantial contribution to Pakistans economy and this had won the everlasting gratitude of the people of Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif who is currently visiting China, today visited important Chinese enterprises. Deputy Minister of CPC International Department, Mr. Liu Jieyi also held a luncheon meeting where they exchanged views on bilateral cooperation, regional situation in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
