Summary Summons Prosecutor General NAB to inform court about presidential immunity.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Hearing of corruption cases against former President Asif Ali Zardari will be held on Monday Oct 14 in the Accountability Court.
Judge Muhammad Bashir Khan will hear the 6 corruption references against Asif Ali Zardari in the Accountability court.
Bashir Khan has also initiated action on the references against the former President, which have been transferred from 4 Accountability Courts of Rawalpindi.
Other than that, issuing the notice to Prosecutor General NAB for Monday, court had ordered him to inform about the presidential immunity of accused before the beginning of his trail.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Accountability Court re-opened corruption references against the former president which had been pending since long due to Asif Zardari’s presidential immunity.
The corruption references included Ursus tractors, Cotecna-SGS, Polo Ground, ARY Gold and assets references. The accountability court judge also issued notices to the former president through the NAB.
All these cases were closed in 2008 after the promulgation of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and these were re-opened in December 2009 after the Supreme Court annulled the said ordinance.
In these 14 to 15 years old cases, almost all the accused have either been acquitted or the references were abated to the extent due to their death.
In most of the cases, Asif Ali Zardari has been left the sole accused and the accountability courts have decided that the proceedings against Zardari would be initiated once his presidential immunity expires.
