Summary Loadshedding durations across country have increased with rise in shortfall.
ISLAMABAD (Agencies) - The power shortfall has risen to 3‚900MW from 3‚450 MW as the total generation was recorded at 12‚100 MW against the demand of 16‚000 MW on Thursday.
According to data released by National Transmission and Dispatch Company‚ the hydel generation stood at 4‚290 MW‚ Thermal 1‚660 and Independent Power Producers 6‚150 MW.
The rise in shortfall has led to prolonged load shedding thus increasing miseries of the masses.
People in different cities have been protesting against the prolonged power outages.
Both domestic and commercial consumers are suffering hardships due to unending loadshedding.
Meanwhile, Minister for Water and Power‚ Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said the government is taking all necessary measures to bring improvement in the energy sector.
In an interview‚ he said that 5000 megawatt electricity would be generated within the period of four years‚ which would be included in the system to facilitate the consumers.
The Minister said steps are being taken to generate electricity from Neelum-Jhelum‚ Nandipur‚ Tarbella IV and several others small projects‚ which would be completed in near future.
He said government is making efforts to eliminate the mafia involved in the power and gas theft. He said Ministry of Water and Power had taken concrete measures to nab the power pilferers.
Khawaja Asif said that Smart Meters have been installed to control the power pilferage.
