(Web Desk) - The Sindh High Court has allowed the former president Asif Ali Zardari to keep a private guard and a bullet-proof car with tinted glasses for security purposes.

Asif Zardari had filed petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) seeking additional security due to looming threats to his life and family.

The petition was filed by the attorney of the former president in the SHC few days back.

In his petition, the former president maintained that his wife and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was killed and he fears that he would also be targeted by the same elements.

The court was requested to grant weapons  licenses and allow the hiring of personal guards for the security purpose.

The petition also referred to a bullet-proof car with tinted glasses and sought licenses for over 100 weapons for security purposes.

Chief Secretary Sindh, Rangers and Federal Government were named as parties in the petition.

The 58-year-old widower of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto stepped down as President on September 8 after a record five years in power overshadowed by worsening security and a weakening economy.

He retired six years after his wife s murder, having presided over the only civilian government in Pakistan to complete a full term in office and hand over to another at the ballot box.

Asif Ali Zardari survived enormous pressure from a judiciary determined to put him on trial for corruption, sacrificing his first prime minister, but otherwise has emerged relatively unscathed.
