Summary

Unscheduled loadshedding for long hours is continued across the country. Period of loadshedding has been extended up to 10 hours in cities while 16 hours in villages due to low production of electricity. According to Ministry of Water and Electricity, due to alarming shortage in water level in big dams, only 110 MW electricity is being produced in Tarbela Dam while 77 MW in Mangla Dam. Hydel power generation has been decreased by 6,000 MW while thermal power houses are producing 2,500 MW less electricity than the actual production due to interruption of gas supply. Due to loadshedding, hundreds of power looms are closed in Faisalabad, Qasoor, Gujranwala and other cities. While work in hundreds of factories and mills has been disrupted. Due to which, thousands of workers are getting unemployed. In villages, tube wells are not working properly because of loadshedding and production of wheat might be curtailed. According to PEPCO officials, due to availability of water in canals in the next two weeks, hydel power generation would be increased and loadshedding would be decreased.
