ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has asked the international lending agencies to provide soft loans to address energy crisis in the country.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said this in a meeting with representatives of World Bank‚ Asian Development Bank and JICA held here on Friday to discuss power sector reforms.
He said the highest priority is being accorded to Bhasha Dam which will produce 4‚500 megawatt inexpensive electricity. The dam will have a storage of eight point one million acre feet water.
The Minister said the government is focusing to produce power through the indigenous resources like coal and hydel in a bid to overcome power shortage and to rationalize the tariffs.
Representatives of Asian Development Bank told the minister that the bank is already working on two coal fired plants of 600 MW each in Jamshoro.
Representatives of JICA said they are working on feasibility study of Thar-Coal in Sindh and work will start next month.
