Opposition parties voice in favour of Karachi operation
The PPP, ANP, JUI and JI are ready to back the government for restoration of peace in Karachi.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has given a proposal to form a special committee on chaotic situation of Karachi. All the main political parties including Pakistan People’s Party, Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulama e Islam and Jamat e Islami Pakistan also have appreciated the government initiative and vowed to stand by the suggested committee.
Chaudhry Nisar said that the committee would representative the people belong to all walks of life particularly political parties, traders and journalists.
He was of the view that Army may be called in Karachi for restoration of peace if all stakeholders agree to do so. Under current situation, Army can’t be called as it would be tantamount to underestimate and degrade the mandate of the provincial government.
He made it clear that all operations would be launched under the direction of the Sindh Chief Minister, adding that all political parties should cooperate with the government for lasting peace in Karachi which has come in the grip of terror.
He said that special meeting on current situation of Karachi would be held on Tuesday in Governor House. MQM leader Farooq Sattar has also been invited in the session.
Opposition leader Naveed Qamar also favoured the targeted operation in Karachi and contended that no party should make hue and cry over impartial steps taken by the government for rule of law.
ANP leader Amir Haider Hoti said that Karachi operation should be launched first of all against ANP if it is involved in illegal and anti state activities.
On the other hand, MQM leader Farooq Sattar has termed the targeted operation a violation of law and constitution. Karachi police and Rangers are not impartial; rather they are targeting innocent people in order to conceal their failure.
He said that MQM workers and common citizens are being arrested without any justification.
It is worth mentioning that MQM MNAs participated in the National Assembly with black strips on their arms. They also staged a walkout from the law-making body.
