11-year old model buses disallowed on motorway
IG Cheema says buses older than 10 year-old model will not be allowed to ply on motorway.
ISLAMABAD (Online): National Highways & Motorway Police, Motorway Zone on special directions of the Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema oraganized a special meeting at Motorway Head Quarter under the chairmanship of DIG Motorway Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan.
The SSP Sector commander M-2 north Nasir Mehmood Satti, owners,managers of various known Bus companies that use motorway and Secretary General of General Bus Stand attended the meeting.
The DIG stressed upon the policy to minimize the rate of accidents in the Salt Range.
All the participants agreed upon the basic principle of having the proper documents of vehicles, no overloading of passengers, assurance of usage of reasonable conditioned tyres.
He said all those public service buses which are 10 years old or further older models will not be allowed to ply on motorway.
Those buses with leather braking system will also not be permitted to ply on motorway.
Bus owners will have one month period for making necessary arrangements at their end, he added.
The DIG said altered or modified PSVs are serious risk for road users.It has been decided that no PSVs with altered or modified bodies will be allowed to use motorway.
He said special courses for PSV drivers will be conducted at Motorway Police Training College Sheikhupura to improve their driving skills and road safety knowledge.
Participation of maximum number of PSV drivers may be ensured in these courses.
