Summary A PML-N delegation met Aftab Sherpao and Fazlur Rehman to seek their support for Mamnoon Hussain.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) called on chairman Qaumi Wattan Party Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao in Islamabad on Sunday and discussed with him presidential elections.
Those who attended the meeting included PML-N presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar‚ Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, Raja Zafarul Haq and Zafar Iqbal Jeghra.
Later, the PML-N delegation also met JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and formally requested him to support PML-N’s candidate Mamnoon Hussain in the presidential election.
Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman informed the PML-N delegation that the decision for support to any presidential candidate will be taken during his party’s meeting today.
Earlier, it would be recalled that the JUI-F core committee, after a meeting with the Maulana in chair on Saturday, delayed its decision about supporting the official presidential candidate.
The sources said Finance Minister Ishaq Dar contacted JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman late Saturday evening for getting assurance of supporting PML-N candidate Mamnoon Hussain in the presidential election. He was however given a cold shoulder. “Let’s first talk about the new political arrangement in Balochistan,” said JUI-F chief said.
It is pertinent to note that the PML-N had already informed the Maulana that the nationalist parties of Balochistan led by the National Party of Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party were not ready to sit with his party in the province and since the PML-N is playing second fiddle in the provincial government, it cannot force them to accept JUI (F) as fourth partner.
