Summary Three people including a woman and a child were killed when a passenger train derailed on Thursday.
GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) - According to details, the train was on its way to Rawalpindi from Lahore when four coaches and the engine were derailed from the track and ran on the loop line.
Rescue teams recovered two bodies while efforts were underway to retrieve others.
According to reports most of victims were fruit vendors and several people standing along the rail track were trapped as the bogies ran off their track.
Railways authorities started rescue operation and six people were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.
According to the local people, the train has crashed many push-carts and cycles on the track boundary where many people were also sitting.
According to Railway Office, incident took place due to driver’s negligence who diverted the train on the loop line despite he was not receiving the green signal and even did not apply breaks timely.
An initial report of the incident was presented to GM Railways who suspended the driver and assistant driver.
Meanwhile, Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique while taking notice of the incident directed the Railways staff to provide ‘Aftari’ to all the passengers and they would be sent to Rawalpindi by a separate train.
