Patel Para blast: Dead terrorists released on bail in past, reveals accused

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The injured terrorist Imran arrested after Saturday blast in Patel Para, while recording his statement to CID police said that the three dead terrorists belonged to the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and were residents of Lines Area.

 

SSP CID Raja Omar Khattab told that the Patel Para blast under-arrest injured terrorist Imran has made some valuable disclosures. The accused said that all the dead terrorists in the blast were activists of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and resident of Lines Area here.

 

It was also learnt that the dead terrorists were released on bail in the past. Meanwhile, two of the terrorists were identified as Subhan and Mateenuddin.

 

SSP Raja Omar Khattab said that the explosion occurred during device change. The terrorists were members of the group led by Asif Ramzi, who was killed sometime ago. A religious party donation receipts have also been recovered from the injured Imran, he said.

 

Meanwhile,  FIR of the blast in the said apartment has been registered in Jamshed Quarter Police Station under Anti-Terrorist Act, Explosives Act and under sections attempt to murder. The FIR said that the three terrorists killed and one injured later arrested were busy in bomb making.

 

According to police and forensic teams the explosion occurred while the bombmakers were trying to link the IED with a wireless detonator--most probably a mobile phone-- when someone hit a wrong button.

 

The third-floor residential apartment located in a Patel Para building, where the terrorists were working on the IED, was partially destroyed in the blast. A week ago, the accused had taken this apartment on rent for Rs18,000 per month and on payment of an advance amount of Rs90,000. The owner of the building lives abroad and his brother in Pakistan leased the apartment through property dealer Ali Zaman. The police have also taken into custody Mansur Shah and property dealer Ali Zaman.

 

It may be recalled that the blast that occurred Saturday on the third floor of the building in Patel Para was second such event in Karachi within couple of hours. The first blast took place near Essa Nagri, where a bomb planted on a motorcycle went-off, injuring Metropolitan Commissioner, Matanat Ali Khan and his guard.
