ECP plans presidential poll on August 6

Summary President Asif Ali Zardari’s last day in office is scheduled for September 8, 2013.

 

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fixed August 6 for polling to elect new head of the state. 

 

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim has approved the presidential election s schedule on Tuesday.

 

As per schedule, the nomination papers for the presidential elections would be submitted by July 24 while the papers will be scrutinized till July 26.

 

The nomination papers could be withdrawn on July 29.

 

The result of the election would be announced on August 7.

 

The returning officers for the elections will be selected by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) himself.

 

President Asif Ali Zardari’s term is due to end in September but he will not seek another term following the defeat of his Pakistan Peoples Party in May 11 parliamentary elections.

 

According to the Constitution, the process of electing a president must begin at least 2 months, and elections could be conducted a month before the end of the President’s term.
