Summary Says leader of the opposition in the National Assembly will be taken into confidence in this regard
ISLAMABAD (Online) - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has said that the appointment of the Chairman Nab will be made with consensus.
Talking to media in Islamabad on Wednesday‚ he said that without consensus the appointment is not possible and the Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly will be taken into confidence in this regard.
Earlier, the PM had recommended names of Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery and former federal secretary Khwaja Zahiruddin Ahmed for NAB chairman’s post.
On the other hand, opposition leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah had expressed concern that the government ignored the names given by opposition for NAB chairmanship.
It is worth mentioning here that the Supreme Court had expressed displeasure over the non-appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief despite court orders.
The court had summoned a reply from the Attorney General in this regard.
Two former NAB chairmen, retired Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah and retired Admiral Fasih Bokhari, had been sent home by the Supreme Court on separate petitions filed by then leader of opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who contended that no meaningful consultation had taken place between him and the then PPP government for both appointments.
Admiral Bokhari was removed on May 29 and his appointment, made on Oct 17, 2011, declared illegal by the apex court, while Justice Shah was appointed on Oct 19, 2010, and sent home on March 11, 2011.
