Gilgit-Baltistan budget worth over RS 24.5 bln presented

GILGIT (Online) - The annual budget for Gilgit-Baltistan region for the fiscal year 2013-14 with a total outlay of24.5billion rupees was presented on Tuesday.

 

Presenting the budget in Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly in Gilgit Tuesday afternoon‚ Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar said one point five billion rupees have been allocated for non-development expenditure.

 

He said nine thousand five hundred and ninety million rupees have been earmarked for development expenditure.

 

The Gilgit-Baltistan finance minister said top priority has been given to power sector for which two point one four billion rupees have been set aside.

 

Another nine hundred and seventyfive million rupees have been allocated for transport and communication‚ six hundred and twentynine million rupees for education‚ more than six hundred and sixteen million rupees for housing and physical planning‚ and over four hundred and thirtytwo million rupees for health sector.

 

The legislature unanimously passed a resolution greeting Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for assuming the office of prime minister of Pakistan. Tributes were also paid to President Asif Ali Zardari for holding free and transparent elections.

 

Another resolution condemned the killing of eleven tourists and one Pakistani guide at Nanga Parbat base camp.
