PHC orders removal of controversial content on Facebook

Summary Peshawar High court Wednesday ordered PTA to block all such pages which contain defamatory content.

 

Peshawar (Online): Without naming the pages on social media with objectionable content, Peshawar High court on Wednesday ordered to block all such pages which contain defamatory content.


Hearing a petition against defamatory content against Islam on Facebook, Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Dost Mohammad Khan saids anti-Islam content ignites religious sentiments of all Muslims.


After release of a controversial and anti-Islam video, YouTube was blocked last year in September in the country, where 98 percent people are Muslims.


The judge sought clarification from all concerned institutions till June 20 over the issue.


Growing complaints regarding anti-Islam content pages and content on social media have been heard from different circles for last many months.


The court also ordered Interior Ministry, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority officials and concerned departments to take immediate measures to block all controversial pages on social media.
