Summary PML-N on Sunday nominated Nawaz Sharif for premier's seat.

 

LAHORE (Dunya News) - After emerging as leading political party in general election, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday got simple majority in the lower house of the Parliament after induction of 18 independent candidates.

 

The PML-N won 126 National Assembly seats in May 11 polls, while 18 independent candidates later announced to join the party, taking the number of seats to 144.

 

With 37 potential reserved seats for women and minorities, the party’s total strength in the National Assembly reached 181.

 

For simple majority in the National Assembly, the PML-N needed only 172 seats in 342-member House.

 

PML-N is also enjoying support of five members-elect of Functional League, three of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, two members of the National People's Party (NPP) and one of the National Party.

 

Currently, PML-N is leading the lower house with around 192 members with the help of its allied parties followed by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) with a total of 32 general seats and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stands at third with a total of 28 general seats.

 

Meanwhile, the PML-N has formally nominated Nawaz Sharif for prime minister’s slot. The final approval of the nomination will be made during a party meeting before the start of the National Assembly session.
