Summary
The Supreme Court has called for the names of all beneficiaries of NRO. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has given strict orders that the court must be notified of every person who is a beneficiary. On the other hand, Justice Khalil Ramday has termed most of the ordinance articles non-Islamic, explaining that murder and rape convicts can never be exonerated under any law. Therefore, it can by no means be compared to Hudaibiya Agreement. Federal and provincial governments proclaimed not to support NRO when the hearing began before the 17-member SC bench. Attorney General Shah Khawar said that 17th amendment is non-constitutional and parliamentary committees are working for its abolition. At this the CJ replied that this issue has nothing to do with NRO. The court also demanded that the draft of NRO proceedings in parliament and standing committee sessions and the PMs statement on this issue be presented in the court as well. Also, a petition has been filed in Lahore High Court to include the names of all NRO beneficiaries in Exit Control List
