Summary Secretary ECP says positive criticism is welcome but character assassination cannot be allowed.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Talking to media here on Friday Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmad said every humanly possible effort was made to ensure peaceful and fair elections.
He said undue criticism had been made on the Commission by some circles but it was not based on facts.
He said time has come to respond to the objections of the people.
He said Ishaq Khakwani of PTI s stance was fully heard by the Commission and it was decided that re-polling will not be held in that constituency as he could not satisfy the commission.
Ishtiaq said positive criticism is welcome but character assassination cannot be allowed. He said the democratic system and the country should not suffer due to undue criticism.
The Secretary Election Commission said with the exception of some stray incidents‚ elections were held peacefully and this has been acknowledged by the international community.
He said election petitions would be disposed of by tribunals consisting of retired sessions judges in 120 days.
