Fake degree: Jatak jailed, Zahoor faces arrest, Humayun acquitted

Crackdown continued against fake degree holders and dual national lawmakers.


LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former provincial minister Ali Madad Jatak has been sentenced to two years in prison with a fine of Rs 10,000 while the court has ordered to arrest ex-MPA Zahoor Hussain after dismissing his bail plea in fake degree case on Friday.

 

Meanwhile, Balochistan High Court (BHC) has over turned the prison sentence given to former federal minister of PPP, Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd in fake degree case.

 

Earlier, Humayun Aziz Kurd was awarded one-year imprisonment and Rs5,000 fine by the sessions court of Sibi in a fake degree case.

 

Judge Sadatullah Bazai announced the verdict after the prosecution proved that Mr Kurd of PPP had submitted a fake degree to the ECP to contest election from the National Assembly constituency NA-267, Kacchi-Jhal Magsi.

 

Mr Kurd was arrested when he came out of the courtroom.

 

In another fake degree case, the former Punjab Assembly MPA, Amna Buttar on Friday has been declared as proclaimed offender for possession of a fake degree.

 

A Lahore district session judge has directed the authorities to arrest Buttar and present her in the court.

 

Moreover, the former provincial minister from Balochistan Mir Ali Madad Jattak was sentenced two years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

 

Earlier, a local court in Quetta reserved its judgment upon conclusion of hearing over a case pertaining to possession of fake degree against Jattak.

 

Jattak, belonging to the PPP was elected as a Member of Provincial Assembly from Balochistan’s PB-5 constituency.

 

Meanwhile, former National Assembly member Jamshed Dasti has filed an appeal in Lahore High Court, Multan bench against Thursday’s decision by a local court in Muzaffargarh which sentenced him to three years prison in fake degree cases.

 

Dasti was arrested from outside the courtroom following his sentencing.

 

District and Sessions Judge Abdur Rehman Niazi announced the verdict which also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the former lawmaker.

 

The former lawmaker had been elected from the Muzaffargarh NA-178 constituency in 2008 and later returned from the same seat in a by-election.

 

He later resigned as member of the National Assembly in 2010 after the Supreme Court ordered him to present his graduation degree.

 

Furthermore, the District and Session Court Lahore ordered to arrest ex-MPA Naseem Nasir khawaja in fake degree case. Naseem Nasir belongs to PML-N
