At least 17 people including 3 policemen and two lawyers were killed and 51 others sustained severe injuries in a suicide blast at Khyber road near Kachehri in Peshawar, Dunya News reported on Thursday. According to Dunya News correspondent, it was a suicide blast. He told that several nearby buildings and vehicles were also damaged in the blast. DCO Peshawar Sahibzada Anees told that the suicide attacker was a pedestrian and wanted to enter into the Kachehri. He said the suicide attacker was stopped by ASI Khasta Gul when he blew himself up. He said that at least 10 people were killed in the blast. According to bomb disposal squad, 16-25 kg explosive material was used in the blast. Many sensitive buildings including Peshawar high court and NWFP Assembly are situated at Khyber road. Police cordoned off the area and Khyber road was sealed after the blast. Rescue teams reached the incident place and shifted the injured to Lady Reading hospital where emergency was declared. According to hospital sources, at least 17 people have been killed so far and 51 got injuries, with seven people in critical condition. Ten dead bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives. Speaker NWFP Assembly, Karamtullah told media that sacrifice of policeman has saved the city and this proves that our forces and police are fully committed to combat this terrorism menace. He said that it would not be correct to call the incident a security lapse. Senior minister Bashir Bilour talking to media at the blast site said that terrorists want to demoralize the nation but nation is united against war on terrorism. He said that we would eliminate the menace of terrorism with help of people. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and other politicians have condemned the Peshawar blast.
