16 blast victims laid to rest as Karachi remains shut

Summary Governor Sindh says government will rebuild flats destroyed in Abbas Town blast.


. KARACHI (Dunya News, Agencies) - The funeral prayers 16 victims of Abbas Town including two children were offered on Monday.


Funeral prayers of eight people were offered at Shahra-e-Pakistan area of Karachi.


A large number of people participated in the prayers.


The deceased persons were laid to rest in ‘Shuhda-e-Qabristan’ graveyard.


Funeral prayers of six other victims were offered at Ancholi area of Abul-Hassan Asfihani Road and the bodies were laid to rest in “Wadi-e-Hussain Qabristan” graveyard.


At Numaish Chorangi, funeral prayers of two others blast victims were offered which were attended by hundreds of people.


The deceased were also laid to rest in “Wadi-e-Hussain Qabristan” graveyard.


Traffic was thin on roads while educational institutions, businesses and markets remained close after the local government declared Monday a day of mourning.


The strike call was supported by various political and religious parties including Jammat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema Islam, MQM, PML(N), Jamiat Ulema Pakistan, and Sunni Tehrik,

All major markets, business and commercial centers in the city remained closed. Public transports also remained off the roads.


Attendance at private and state-owned universities, colleges and schools was thin due to unavailability of public transport. All Pakistan private Schools Association had already announced the closure of private schools in Karachi for Monday. Inter-city transport also remained suspended.

Examinations at private and state-owned universities and colleges were also postponed.


Meanwhile, governor Ishratul Ebad has announced that the Sindh government would get rebuilt the flats and shops destroyed in Abbas Town bomb explosion.


The governor has directed Karachi Commissioner to supervise the relief activities. He also directed the administration to provide all necessary requirements for the injured.


MQM Chief Altaf Hussain telephoned Ishratul Ebad and directed to utilize all the resources for the medical treatment of the wounded people, to accommodate homeless, to provide food and their rehabilitation.
