ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other Opposition political parties Monday held a march from Parliament House to the office of the Election Commission in Islamabad to press for their demand for empowerment of the Election Commission.


A representative delegation comprising leaders of PML-N and Jamaat-e-Islami met a senior official of the Commission and presented a Memorandum.


The Memorandum expresses complete confidence in the Election Commission and demanded early completion of the process of verification of voters in Karachi under supervision of the Army. They also demanded delimitation of constituencies in Karachi.


The Memorandum also called for resignation of the Governors of all the four provinces and replacement of senior officials on formation of the Caretaker Governments.


The participants among others included leaders and workers of PML-N‚ PML-F‚ Jamaat-e-Islami‚ Muslim League (Hamkhiyal)‚ Jamhoori Watan Party‚ Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party‚ NPP‚ Sunni Tehrik and Sindh Awami Tehrik.


Earlier the PML-N announced that it was cancelling its sit-in outside the Election Commission’s office in Islamabad.


Instead, the party said, it would merely march till the commission’s building.


The decision was taken at a PML-N parliamentary meeting, chaired by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.


The meeting was also attended by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). Other attendees included Sunni Tehreek, National Peoples Party, Sindh United Party, Jamhoori Watan Party and Awami Tehreek Sindh.


The participants of the meeting issued a declaration outlining their demands, but at the same time expressing full confidence in the ECP.


Addressing the participants‚ Leader of the Opposition Ch Nisar Ali Khan said it was in continuation of the recent sit-ins in Karachi for completion of the process of voters  verification in Karachi and de-limitation of the constituencies of the city as directed by the Supreme Court.
