NAB chief letter: Presidency to consult cabinet
Updated on

Summary Presidency has decided to take up the letter of Chairman NAB with PM and federal cabinet.

ISLAMABAD: Fasih Bokhari in his letter written to the President had directly accused members of the superior judiciary of trying to influence the outcomes of the coming general elections.

According to sources presidency is gravely concerned over the reference “pre-poll rigging” made in the letter by Chairman NAB Fasih Bokhari.

Sources said that President deems it necessary to consult the cabinet over this serious charge as certain verdicts of the Supreme Court are affecting the election environment, despite preparations for holding transparent polls, as indicated in the letter.

Source said that NAB chief in his letter did not mention any clause of NAB ordinance through which president‘s attention could be drawn while on the other hand president has also handed over his administrative powers to parliament and cabinet under the 18th amendment.

In view of this certain clauses of NAB ordinance cannot be implemented as they could during the tenure of Pervez Musharraf.

Sources said that President’s contact with cabinet is done under article 48 of the constitution under which president has the authority to refer any matter to cabinet for a review.
