Summary Parliamentary Commission agrees on jurisdiction, sources for the new province in Punjab.
ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Commission has reached consensus over the name, territory, divisions and districts of the new province in Punjab.
The name of the proposed fifth province of Pakistan would be Bahawalpur-South Punjab that would consist of Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan divisions and Mianwali and Bhakkar districts.
However, the inclusion of Jhang district in the new province would be decided by the National Assembly.
Bahawalpur would be the capital of new province and governor and chief minister secretariats would be set up there.
There would be 124 seats of Bahawalpur-South Punjab Assembly including 23 for women and minorities.
Meanwhile, the proposed new province would have 59 seats of National Assembly (47 general and 12 for women and minorities).
The commission has recommended 24 seats of the Senate for the new province.
The new province will have the provincial election commission and the High Court.
Seven articles of the Constitution have been amended for the creation of new province including Article 1, 51, 59, 106, 176-A, and 18.
