Governors' change before polls unconstitutional: Manzoor Watto
Updated on

Summary PPP Punjab head Manzoor Watto says demand of governors’ change ahead of polls is unconstitutional.

The federal minister expressed these views in a statement issued on Saturday.

Setting aside the reservations of the Opposition regarding the governors and electoral reforms before holding of elections, he said that the constitution had only one section which is related to the appointment of caretaker prime minister as well as chief ministers ahead of general elections.

“So far as the removal of governors is concerned, there is no mention of such a thing anywhere in the constitution”, said Manzoor Watto.

Watto said that Ch Nisar’s demand for change of governors is actually his distrust in the formation of Election Commission and the caretaker setup.

The PPP leader suggested the PML-N leadership to raise the only those issues which have any constitutional justification.
