The Federal Cabinet has approved gas load management plan for winter in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday, reported Dunya News. It is also decided in the meeting to close industrial units and CNG stations 2 days weekly. Giving a briefing to media after the Cabinet meeting, Information Minister Kamar Zaman Kaira said that it is decided in the Federal Cabinet to close industrial units and CNG stations 2 days a week.He said that Cabinet meeting has also approved the Sugar Policy 2010-2011.He said that the sugar policy was approved after the detailed discussion with Growers Association. He said that Pakistan currently needs 4.2 million ton sugar while 3 million ton sugar is expected to be produced this year. To fill the remaining 1 million ton gap, 0.5 million ton raw and 0.5 million ton refined sugar would be imported. He said that the provincial governments have been asked to implement the policy. He said that 0.168 million ton sugar is available in the country. He said that gas load shedding will not be for domestic and commercial consumers while industries will be divided into categories for gas distribution. The meeting decided that gas load management would be done for cement, fertilize factories and rental power plants. Earlier, Cabinet was told that country would face 1 billion cubic feet gas shortage per day in January.
