Summary MQM's deputy convener Farooq Sattar filed the petition at Supreme Court's Karachi registry.

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday filed a request in the Supreme Court to request exemption for party chief Altaf Hussain from appearing in the apex court on January 7.

MQM's deputy convener Farooq Sattar filed the petition at Supreme Court's Karachi registry.

The apex court had issued a contempt of court notice to Hussain and his party’s deputy convener Dr Farooq Sattar on December 14 over the former’s derogatory remarks towards the Supreme Court judges.

Farooq Sattar while giving references of the murder incidents including assasination of Benazir Bhutto and Senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Bashir Bilour, remarked that situation in the country was not suitable for Altaf Hussain to visit Pakistan.

The MQM leader requested court to allow him or Altaf Hussain's lawyer Farogh Naseem to appear in his place.
