Summary The SC accepted Ch. Nisar Ali Khan’s petition for hearing against the appointment of Chairman NAB.
Two-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Tasaduq Hussain Jilani conducted the hearing of the petition on Tuesday against the appointment of Chairman NAB Fasih Bukhari.
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s counsel Akram Sheikh in his arguments said that appointment of head of main institution of accountability was an important issue with regard to public interest and consultation with the opposition leader for the appointment of NAB chief was a legal obligation.
NAB chairman’s counsel Asma Jahangir said that the court had limited authority regarding human rights and petition against appointment of NAB chairman could not be submitted to the Supreme Court.
The attorney general said the case is raising important legal questions and a larger bench should conduct the proceedings.
The court directed the attorney general and chairman NAB to submit the detailed reply in this regard.
