Bike riding banned over intelligence reports: Malik

Summary Malik has said the ban on riding motorcycle was imposed following reports by the agencies.

 

Speaking in the Senate on Friday morning he said facts and figures show that in 96 percent cases of terrorism motorcycles were used due to which it became mandatory to ban the use of motorcycle for on Friday.
 

 

The Minister said article 148 of the Constitution clearly says that state has to act in case of any internal or external aggression. He said the government will take every step to provide security to the citizens.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik laid before the House "The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill‚ 2012". The bill was referred to the Standing Committee concerned.
 

 

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said parliament failed to pass the relevant anti-terrorist laws and other bills which were moved by him. He said law needs to be made more stringent so that terrorists don't get release on bails.
 

 

Raza Rabbani said the bills moved by the interior ministry had some flaws that could affect the basic rights of the citizens of Pakistan‚ therefore they were not dispensed.
 

 

Babar Awan said the announcement to ban motorcycle riding is unconstitutional and will create problems for the ordinary citizens of Karachi. He said for resolving the issue of Karachi one needs to look above politics and take a serious approach. The upper House has now been adjourned till Monday on 4 pm.
