Nazims demand Local Bodies elections immediately

District Nazims from Punjab said on Sunday that the provincial government has hijacked the local government system through bureaucracy, adding that all development projects were completely halted due to lack of funds. A meeting of District Nazims held in Lahore was attended by 26 Nazims including District Nazim Attock Major Tahir Sadiq, District Nazim Chakwal Sardar Ghulam Abbas, District Nazim Bahawalpur Tariq Bashir Cheema, District Nazim Lodhran Abdul Rehman Kanju and District Nazim Khanewal Ahmad Yar Hiraj. The District Nazims demanded the election commission to announce new local bodies elections immediately. They also demanded the Punjab government to resume development funds of the local governments and give them jurisdiction according to the law. They appealed Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) to hear cases related to local government system urgently.
