Summary Interior Minister says restoration of peace in Karachi is first and foremost priority of government.

While talking to the media in Islamabad, Rehman Malik said that the circle of patrolling and monitoring would be expanded with the passage of time in order to maintain law and order situation in the city.

On the other hand, ex-IG Sindh Afzal Shagri has stated that political parties are directly linked with chaotic situation in the metropolis. “Whenever security force arrest some accused allegedly involved in any crime, political parties start complaining about arrest of their party workers.”

Moreover, ex-secretary interior Tasneem Norani is of the view that rift and schism among political parties are undoubtedly responsible for the current situation.

Ex-IG Sindh also said that morale of police has degenerated as it is bound to ‘decisions’ taken by politicians who have nothing to do with rule of law in the city.

“The security forces are irresolute and confused as political elements unscrupulously compel them to take undue steps as compromise.

Furthering his statement, he said that the police should be given ‘free hand’ for maintenance of peace and tranquility in the province particularly in Karachi.

Tasneem Noorani while keeping in view poor management and weak infrastructure suggested that police and executive should be segregated from politics; that is the sole way to restoration of peace in the city.
