Summary Marc Grossman Saturday said America was not pushing Pakistan to launch operation in Waziristan.
In an interview with PTV‚ he said decision in this regard will be taken by Pakistan itself.Marc Grossman said Pakistan and the United States have multifaceted relations and they are improving day by day. He said twenty percent of Pakistani products are being exported to the United States.To a question he said Pakistan-US relations should be based on mutual respect and more focused on economic collaboration. He said there should be more investment in Pakistan by the US companies.Replying to another question Grossman said he doesnt believe that the bilateral relationship between the two countries was transactional as Pakistan is beneficiary of the largest full bright programme and the United States is also providing assistance for the energy sector.He said Pakistan and the US are making efforts for regional peace and for peaceful and stable Afghanistan.The US Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan, Marc Grossman who is on a two day visit to Pakistan called on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.Both dignitaries exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest particularly Pakistan-US relations and the regional situation. The Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar underlined the importance of a broad-based relationship between Pakistan and the US marked by deeper and wider cooperation in diverse fields.The Special Representative Marc Grossman highlighted the US commitment to a long-term relationship with Pakistan based on mutual interest and mutual respect. Both the Foreign Minister and the visiting US official expressed satisfaction on the progress made by the Working Group on Law Enforcement and Counter Terrorism which recently met in Washington D.C under the bilateral Strategic Dialogue framework.They expressed the hope that the Working Groups on Economy and Finance and Energy and Water would meet soon. The bilateral Defence Consultative Group is scheduled to meet in the first week of December 2012.On Afghanistan, the Foreign Minister and Marc Grossman exchanged views on the recent developments and expressed the commitment to continue to work together in support of Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process and for progress and stability in the country.
