NA body expresses concern over DG PCSIRs appointment

NA parliamentary body has expressed concerns over the appointment of DG PCSIR.

While expressing reservations over the appointment of Director General Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) ,a parliamentary body on Friday issued directions to the Law and Establishment Divisions for giving opinion about the appointment.The meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology held here under the chair of lawmaker Dr.Abdul Kadir Khanzada of MQM.The committee Chairman said that Ministry of Science and Technology has appointed a junior officer on the post of Director General whereas ignored other senior officers which was very unfortunate.He said earlier, Chairman PCSIR had sent three names to the ministry of Science and Technology for the appointment of Director General but the list could not entertain that was why PCSIR sent another summery comprising three names and name of Iftikhar Soomro was inserted in the second list, later on he was appointed as a Director General.The Chairman of Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research informed the committee that as per regulation 22 of PCSIR service regulation 1981,the posting and transfer of the Director General of laboratories and Unites is made in consultation with ministry of Science and Technology.He said the post of DG was an administrative post, hence the person having the vast administrative experience, leadership qualities, Research and Development, at least three years service in BPS-20 and sound relation with industries is recommended. He further said that as per section-15 of PCSIR act, council is bound to follow the directives and orders issued by ministry of Science and Technology.The explanation of the council could not convince members of the committee which, later on issued instructions to the Law and Establishment Divisions to give their opinion about the appointment of Director General of PCSIR.
