HRCP expresses concern over extremism, lawlessness

HRCP states that disappearances, extremism, lawlessness are overwhelming challenges.

HRCP has expressed alarm at growing intolerance, abuse of belief, continued incidents of enforced disappearance, proliferation of sectarian violence and general breakdown of law and order in country.A statement issued at the conclusion of the HRCP Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Council meeting on Sunday termed these as overwhelming challenges to the citizens right to life and freedom to practice their religious belief.Expressing its views it has been announced that: HRCP, Pakistan is disappointed at the continued enforced disappearances and illegal detention across the country, especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as this endemic malaise has proliferated as plague-like spread of sectarian violence in Pakistan, both widespread and systematic.It has also voiced its deep concerns and acute anxiety at the rising intolerance and extremism on the basis of religious and sectarian identity, as a result of growing pandering to religiosity; which had affected all aspects of life, including education and the justice system amounting to nothing short of making a mockery of the majoritys belief as well as mocking others religious beliefs.The recent order by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to make the grant of bail to an alleged brothel owner conditional to her attending a madrassa for one hour daily for a month has been declare as baffling, having no basis in law, and the impact of such decisions by high courts on judges of subordinate courts have been criticized as rather detrimental.It has also been stressed to highlight and expose, the use of blasphemy law to persecute religious minorities, while HRCP has also called upon the authorities to dismantle all sectarian organizations, holding of free and fair elections.HRCP calls upon the government to fulfill in the same term the promise it made regarding conversion of capital punishment into life imprisonment.
