 ECP refers Rehman Malik's case to Senate

Summary Election Commission of Pakistan has referred Rehman Malik's dual nationality case to Senate.

Secretray ECP said Chairman Senate will take decison on the case in 30 days as per law.Secretary Election Commission has said that dual nationality holders cannot contest elections.He said that the interior minister would also have to face prosecution like other members of parliament.TheECP also has decided to register a case against the mistier for the interior.In a high level Election Commission meeting majority of the members backed action against the interior minister.The meeting was headed by ECP chief Fakhruddin G Ibrahim in Islamabad. The meeting discussed the apex court’s decision in dual nationality case.The meeting was of the view that Rehman Malik was involved in corrupt practices and there was no need to wait for the reference to initiate action against him.The Sindh member of the ECP asked for more time to review the decision. The cases of 11 disqualified MPs were sent to the provincial election commissioners.It may be pertinent to mention that involvement in fraudulent activities is punishable with fine up to Rs 5000 and 3-year imprisonment.
