Summary The Supreme Court has observed that a judge cannot be summoned in a court as a witness.
The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of contempt of court case against business tycoon Malik Riaz till 20th of this month.During the hearing today‚ Attorney General Irfan Qadir objected over the bench‚ saying both the Judges cannot hear the case. He said the Chief Justice as a person is involved in the case.Irfan Qadir‚ who also included Chief Justice in the list of the witnesses submitted before the court to summon Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as witness. However‚ the court observed that a judge cannot be summoned in a court as a witness‚ but his statement can be obtained through an affidavit.Earlier‚ the court objected to the list of the witnesses presented by the attorney general and advised him to act impartially by remaining within his jurisdiction as chief law officer.
